What They Say
NE-YO:
“Alicia Keys is just a strong willed person, a strong minded person. You can see it, you can hear it in the way she talks, you can see it in the way she walks. She definitely is very secure within herself and preaches to other women that they should be secure within themselves and kind of leads by that example by that right. Besides the fact that she’s an amazing talent and a beautiful woman.”
JOHN MAYER:
” When most people ask me: “Who do you want to duet with?”, I just say: “Alicia Keys”. It’s my catch-call answer, because if I could make a career out of doing nothing but making music with Alicia Keys, I would do it, because it’s just not enough hours in the day and I am not that much of a likeable person for her to hang out with all the time.”
KATHLEEN BATTLE:
Question: Have you seen an erosion of interest in classical music over the course of your career?
Answer: Recently, Alicia Keys reached out to me for an AIDS-prevention charity called Keep a Child Alive. She asked me to sing a song with her that Bono had written to sing with Pavarotti [the U2 tune "Miss Sarajevo"]. She was the Bono element and I sang the line written for Pavarotti. We got a standing ovation.
Question: What makes a singer great?
Answer: I come back to Alicia Keys. She thinks inside aswell as outside the music. She plays the piano, composes, arranges. She tailored the Bono song we sang so that it fit us — she really made it ours. Finding music that suits you, and knowing what suits you, is part of being a great singer.
JANET JACKSON:
» Commenting on when she saw Alicia in a promo-tour concert in Atlanta, Nov. 2007: “I love Alicia I think she is so talented and I was there just to enjoy her like everyone else.”

» “I love Alicia Keys. As of right now the kids coming up, I love Alicia Keys. I think she’s incredibly talented, but what really draws me to her is she is just a beautiful soul. She has such a wonderful heart and has always been very very kind, very very genuine and I love that. She has not changed, not one bit.”

» Janet Jackson’s Celebrity Girl-Crush HX Magazine a guide to gay nightlife and culture in New York City asked Janet Jackson:

HX: Who would be your celebrity girl-crush?

Janet: You know who I think is flawless? Alicia Keys. I think she’s absolutely beautiful, such a sweetheart, down to earth. So maybe Alicia Keys.

MARY J BLIGE:
“I feel there are a few things or people that mean something. Amy Winehouse’s music means something. Alicia Keys’ music means something as far as the instruments and how organic her music is.”
RIHANNA:
“I like to balance it out. I won’t do short shorts and short top. That’s what I admire so much about Alicia Keys. She became so successful off of just her music. She was really conservative about her style at first.”
SEAN PAUL:
“I’m looking at a picture right now of Alicia Keys. I would love to work with her,” he said. “She has a deep, deep soul, something that you feel immediately as she opens her mouth.”
CHAM:
» ” We were looking for someone exclusive and you can’t get more exclusive than Alicia Keys. We reached out to her and her people and she was already feeling the song so it made it a little bit easier for us. So we were keeping our fingers crossed that she was going to do it. We did the video a couple of days ago and I’m so happy. I’m just so happy to have her on the album she’s so humble. She’s probably the biggest female artist in the whole world and to have her on your first single you can’t ask for more than that.”

» What can you tell me about the new album?
CHAM: “The album is titled Ghetto Story. It drops on the 15th of August. I got the most talented ALICIA KEYS on the album…”

» “When I was recording the remix with Alicia Keys, she talk about how she used to have to eat white rice and honey because at the time, dem couldn’t do any better. That’s how it is and that’s why people love it.”

ELI HARRIS [Plays Alicia Keys' boyfriend in the movie, "The Nanny Diaries"]:
» “Working with Alicia was definitely an honor. Her whole vibe isn’t Alicia Keys the grammy winning celebrity, her whole aura was Alicia Keys the girl next door.”

» “The thing that made the whole experience tight, was that she had to pick from 4 guys. My agency called me up and told me the scenario that she was looking for chemistry and an overall fit for the part. She met each of us and I was who she chose. So, naturally, it felt good to be chosen. Plus, on top of that, she’s real. She’s not a fake hollywood celebrity broad like others that I worked with. She’s definitely the truth, which is why we vibed so well together. I look forward to working with her again.”

SCARLETT JOHANSSON:
“She’s incredibly talented. A better improv actor than I will ever be, that’s for sure.”
LEIGH BLAKE [President of Alicia Keys' organization, "Keep a Child Alive"]:
“Ordinary people, doing what they can, makes our work here so very rewarding. Not that Alicia is ordinary but well, if you asked her if she were special she would tell you no, you are.”
ROBERTA FLACK:
» “[Alicia] is special, [she's] the real thing. She is so young and so aware and so alert. She is sober. She’s the quintessential example right now of what someone with real, deep-rooted talent can do. Because of Alicia’s background, I think she will be out there forever. When she gets stuck for an idea, she can just go back in and pull up some of those things that she spent hours and hours practicing. When I’m stuck for an idea, I go straight to Brahms. If not Brahms,Chopin, maybe. There are some magic people in our history as Americans’ musical people who have left such an indelible footprint that can never be erased or replaced, like Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland. Some are still around: Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin. And I think Alicia has that kind of talent.”

» “When you’re that talented, the problems that bother you the most are at a very deep, personal level, like time. There’s not enough of it to do all the creative work you want to do. I think Alicia wants to make a contribution by coming up with something different. And she already has on one level, in that she gave the young people, her generation, something else to listen to that they accepted and liked.”

MARIO:
“(…) all three of those [songs] that you just mentioned are relevant and when artist do songs like that its like Alicia Keys I think that her songs are so classic cos I can feel that she has experienced those situations and when artists do songs like that they always standout.”
CHRISTINA AGUILERA:
» [Christina Aguilera's "Stripped" album Thank You's To Alicia Keys]
“I’ve had such a blast getting to know you, and having worked with you, have become an even bigger fan. Your focus, hard work and passion for music is both admirable and such a pleasure to see. Let me know the next time you wanna go out 4 mojitos.. :)

» What was it like recording “Impossible” with Alicia Keys?
“Good. That song’s got an old-school feel to it. Alicia sang some backgrounds with me. We also did a talking-back-and-forth thing before the song even started.”

» “I told her when I worked with her, “You influenced this song.” I think she’s great.”

» But which celebrities do impress you?
“Alicia [Keys], she’s a pretty cool girl in her own right, too.”

» “I wouldn’t mind kissing Alicia Keys; She’s very beautiful and talented, I can relate to that.”

50 CENT and LLOYD BANKS:
50 Cent: So is there anyone you’ve seen in a magazine that you’re excited about right now?
Lloyd Banks: Well, recently I just did a record with Alicia Keys.
50 Cent: Alicia Keys.
Lloyd Banks: I’m not even gonna lie to ya’ll. I couldn’t stop looking at the lady the whole time I was recording.
50 Cent: Wow. So you got a chance to work with Alicia Keys. What kind of record is it like, how does the record feel?
Lloyd Banks: The record is actually a relationship record. If I could be your boyfriend, or I could be your girlfriend, vice versa.
50 Cent: That should be interesting to hear now that we know that you thought Alicia was attractive.
Lloyd Banks: I have a lot of interest in that lady, you know. Time will tell.
BEYONCÉ:
“And Alicia, every time I see her, she has such a great spirit and she has such a great voice, and I respect both of them [Missy Elliot and Alicia Keys] because they write and produce, and that’s so great that all of us write and produce and are true musicians and artists.”
JOHN LEGEND:
DJ: When it comes to talent and stuff, I just feel like of our generation there’s two people that I would love to like have get married and have babies and that’s you and Alicia Keys.
John Legend: *laughs*
DJ: Is there any way that you guys can date and get married and have like seven kids or anything.
John Legend: Oh man. I think we’re both otherwise occupied right now. Alicia is beautiful and talented though..obviously.
*John and DJ laugh*
DJ: Did you ever get asked that question before or am I crazy or what?
John Legend: You know people are always like “when are ya’ll gonna do a duet?” They don’t usually say “when are ya’ll gonna get married and have babies?” But you know, it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.
*John and DJ laugh*
LEONA LEWIS:
“I love Alicia Keys! Oh my gosh! I’m such an Alicia Keys fan aswell. I saw her on your show [Tyra Banks], she was amazing. [...] I admire her a lot for what she does.”
